VOID

Maria Berglund

VOID focuses on Compact living, furniture and storage. The population is increasing over time and there is now less space to live in. The focus lies within the forgotten spaces, whereas the result is an interior bathroom door with storage capabilities.

VOID is the alternative space for storage. The product makes use of a lost space inside the already limited home. It gives of the illusion of creating more space, when there actually is a little less. By having storage possibilities inside a door, the floor can be left unused. The concept is to maintain the spacious rooms and in turn make it easier to clean and rearrange the other furniture pieces in the home.

The additional storage is designed to be hidden, to avoid the attraction of too much attention. The extra space is concealed by the use of traditionally designed relief panels, which many door are based on. Most interior doors are white, especially when it comes to bathroom doors, as its choice of colour expresses cleanness and neatness. VOID can easily blend in with the rest of the home and be perceived as an almost regular interior door. The cabinets have no visual handles. In which to open them, simply grab hold of the profile which frames them. They are mounted with hidden hinges and super magnets. Inside the cabinet doors, there is a modular shelving system. It can be rearranged and removed in times of cleaning. There is a standard kit with a set of shelves, cups and drawers. All parts are made out of hard transparent plastic and elastic strings. The plastic is to resemble glass, as it looks nearly the same, except from the fact that it is more ductile. Brittle glass shards are not wanted inside bathrooms, especially when most of the interior of them are white. Other than that, the plastic material has a sound reducing capability, in which it becomes very handy for when the door is in motion. The elastic strings are flexible and there to give support and keep the contents in place. Additional shelves can be bought separately for customization. Besides that, there are various colours to choose from, both on the door and shelving system. There is an additional option where the user can have mirrors on the inside of the cabinet doors. The one thing that always stays the same is internal colouring of the door. It is to remain white. The conclusion is to let the users personality shine through, as they can display their belongings in a better way and keep the expression of neatness.
